Discovering God's Will

Following are ten affirmations about discovering God’s will. Each has biblical support. Discovering God’s will is a complex process, but it is a very important process. Knowing God is where it begins…and ends.

  1. God has a plan for you and He wants to share it with you. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel and watch over you.”
    (Psalm 32:8)
  2. God’s watch-care over you is a life-long commitment. “For this God is our God forever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. (Psalm 48:14) “The Lord will guide you always.”
    (Isaiah 58:11)
  3. The way to begin is to ask. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
    (Matthew 7:7, 8)
  4. Trust and obedience will lead you to understand what God’s will is. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…and he will make your paths straight.”
    (Proverbs 3:5, 6)
  5. Often there are conditions to be met for you to know God’s will. “Lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him….” (Proverbs 3:6) “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
    (Proverbs 16:3)
Quick Nav
  1. God’s directives are clear and present. “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isaiah 30:21)
  2. God takes the initiative to instruct and lead you. “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”
    (Isaiah 48:17)
  3. God may require you to wait for an answer. “Wait for the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it…Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace.”
    (Psalm 37:34-37)
  4. You are not an accident. God had a purpose in mind when He chose you.” In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”
    (Ephesians 1:11)
  5. The primary way God leads is through his word, the Bible. “When you walk, they (God’s commands) will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For these commands are a lamp.”
    (Proverbs 6:22)
